93 letters to my two sons.

Free, because they were never meant to be sold. Ninety-three letters across nine parts: where they come from, the courage it takes to start something, what it costs to keep going when it isn't working, and what I want them to remember when I'm not around to say it again.

No spam and no pitch. One email a week if you want it, and you can leave any time.

    Where it started

My grandfather started a scrap yard in 1972 with almost nothing. My parents got married at seventeen and eighteen and spent the next thirty years turning it into something that could feed a family.

    The question at lunch

I was seventeen, running a cutting torch in July heat, when I asked my dad how a guy gets an office job in the air conditioning. He said, "Why don't you try going to college?" I told him nobody in our family ever had. He said, "That's my point. Somebody needs to go."

    Why I wrote it down

It isn't a business book and there's no framework in it. It's one father writing things down before he runs out of time to say them. I'm not selling anything here. If you get something out of it, go write something down for whoever comes after you.
